A home with entertainment value is something many people seek. From parties to book clubs to family gatherings, there are many reasons this is attractive. But what makes a home great for entertaining? And what kinds of things are commonly listed to lure prospective buyers?
While an Olympic-sized swimming pool helps (although not too common in Colorado), it’s not the only thing that ups a home’s entertainment potential. The following do, as well:
A welcoming entryway
Sure, the entryway isn’t something many of us consider: it’s rather easy to forget the foyer! But an entryway that’s welcoming does make a home better for entertaining than an entryway that says “leave.” You don’t need to go overboard: a few seats can do wonders.
Seating areas
Speaking of seats, this is another asset making a home great for gatherings. A home with multiple seating rooms, large open areas, and seating everywhere (i.e., a row of barstools at the kitchen counter) invites guests to, quite literally, sit back and relax. Yet how you arrange your seating matters, too: aim for intimacy over distance.
A patio
Depending on where you live, a patio may not be relevant during certain times of the year. But the warm summer months make a deck delightful. A home with a big patio is ideal for barbecues and seasonal get-togethers. Adding bells and whistles (such as a firepit or an outdoor bar) make it even more attractive…especially in Colorado.
A big kitchen
No matter the type of party, everyone seems to congregate in the kitchen. It’s like moths to a flame (or, more accurately, mouths to the food). A kitchen big enough to hold everyone makes it perfect for hosting. A long table and many chairs are essential, too.
Mood lighting
We often don’t appreciate how much of an influence lighting has on the mood, but its impact is profound. Lights that are too bright or dull can hinder a fine time. Mood lighting does the opposite: it illuminates comfort.
More than one bathroom
There are many reasons for having more than one bathroom (even aside from entertaining). A home with limited toilets or hard to reach facilities (i.e., the only bathroom is located upstairs) isn’t as conducive to a crowd. This isn’t to say that every guest needs their own sink, but no one wants to wait in a ten-minute line, either.
Whether or not a home is good for entertaining is one aspect potential buyers notice. But, make no mistake, they notice it indeed.
