Moving can be exhausting and such a hassle… but we are here to give you some tips to make moving better and easier for you!
1. Purge Your Things
Before you begin packing, go through some of your stuff and get rid of the things that you do not use or no longer need. Use the Marie Kondo method if you are having trouble; ask yourself, “Does this bring me joy?” if your answer is no, you can either donate it or throw it away. Donate as many items as you can to reduce waste!
2. Begin Packing a Little at a Time
Start by packing the things that do not get used everyday. By slowing packing your items, you can save yourself a lot of time and stress on moving day.
3. Keep Your Essentials with You
Pack a small bag with the items you will need for your first night or two in your new home. This will save you the headache of digging through boxes to find your toothbrush after a long day of moving boxes. Please note that this also includes important documents and jewelry. Although these are not “essentials” you want to keep these valuables with you in your car and not in the moving truck incase they do get lost or misplaced.
4. Utilize What You Have
Moving materials are very expensive, try to use anything you have in your home to help with the move. Use towels or blankets to cushion glassware or fragile items instead of buying single-use bubblewrap. Wrap your clothes in trash bags instead of getting large hanging boxes.
5. Assign A Trusted Person to Guide the Movers
Choose a person to help guide the movers. This can be you, a family member, or a friend. This person will tell the movers where all of the boxes go as they are unloaded from the truck. Doing this will cause less confusion and will streamline the process. Note that this person needs to know what is packed in the truck and the layout of the new home.
