The neighborhood of Grant Ranch lies in south Lakewood, just southwest of Marston Lake. A planned community with an interesting history, Grant Ranch’s convenient location, excellent amenities, and myriad activities make it a great place to put down roots.
Grant Ranch is named after its original owner, James B. Grant, who was Colorado’s third governor. In 1878, Grant purchased the 1,280 acres of land of which modern-day Grant Ranch is now a part. The property changed hands in 1995 when Grant’s descendants sold nearly 500 acres of it. Construction on the residential area began the following year, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Governed by the Bowles Metropolitan District, Grant Ranch is crisscrossed by three different jurisdictions: Denver and Jefferson counties, and the city of Lakewood. One advantage of this unique situation is that it allows residents and their children the freedom to choose between two different school districts. Folks may also send their kids to the private Knowledge Beginnings Grant Ranch Day School, which includes childcare for infants and toddlers, as well as pre-K enrichment programs.
Residents love Grant Ranch’s superb location. Clement Park, Raccoon Creek Golf Course, and three shopping centers (including Southwest Plaza mall) are all within a two-mile radius of the neighborhood. Plus, getting to downtown Denver is easy with the city less than 15 miles away.
There’s no need to go far, however, because Grant Ranch features plenty of amenities and activities of its own. Residents gather at the Grant Ranch Village Center for special events at the clubhouse, to use the community pool, or to play a match at one of the tennis courts. The lake, Bowles Reservoir Number One, allows anyone to enjoy aquatic sports such as open water swimming, paddleboarding, sailing, and fishing. And with 10 miles of greenbelt and hiking trails and 130 acres of open space, getting some fresh air is as simple as stepping out the front door.
Throughout the year, the staff at the Village Center organizes all kinds of activities, from educational talks to game nights to barbecues. Every holiday is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate. Grant Ranch residents are also welcome to join any number of classes and clubs, such as yoga, Mahjong, book club, and more.
Grant Ranch may be small compared to the cities that surround it, but a lively community, unique amenities, and proximity to parks, shopping, and Denver mean its residents won’t miss a thing. For families, commuters, or folks who just want a quiet living, this neighborhood provides an excellent place to call home.
