The holidays are over, but don’t let that put you in a slump. Going out for a good time is easy in a happenin’ place like Denver, and there are plenty of activities this month to keep you and your family entertained. From a barrel-aged beer fest to a throwback to the Wild West, here are six of our favorites.
WHEN: All month long!
WHERE: Skyline Park
What’s the only thing better than ice skating? Ice skating for free! The Downtown Denver Rink at Skyline Park is open seven days a week through Valentine’s Day, and provides a fun way to spend a quick break or a whole afternoon. All ages are welcome.
WHEN: January 2 – 14
WHERE: Buell Theatre
The revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical, The King and I, is coming to the DCPA for two weeks of heartwarming magic. Fans of Broadway and the 1956 film alike will adore seeing the tale of Anna and the King brought to life, featuring treasured songs such as “Getting to Know You” and many more.
National Western Stock Show and Rodeo
WHEN: January 6 – 21
WHERE: National Western Complex
For over a hundred years, the National Western Stock Show has brought people together to celebrate Colorado’s western heritage and showcase the skills of some seriously talented performers. With dozens of events to enjoy, including rodeos, horse shows, and canine obstacle courses, this Denver tradition offers something for everyone.
Denver International Sportsmen’s Expo
WHEN: January 11 – 14
WHERE: Colorado Convention Center
This one’s for all you outdoor enthusiasts! More than 500 vendors bring only their finest products, destinations, and experts to the Convention Center during this four-day extravaganza. Come mingle with fellow nature lovers, get some new gear, and attend some free classes taught by local and regional outdoor experts. You’ll even get the chance to meet some real-life birds of prey.
LowDown’s 3rd Annual Barrel-Aged Beer Fest + Biscuits ‘n’ Gravy Breakfast
WHEN: January 13 – 14
WHERE: LowDown Brewery
Come for the biscuits, stay for the beer. LowDown Brewery + Kitchen presents the 3rd Annual Barrel Aged Beer Fest, but this year they’re doing something extra-special: starting at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday, the kitchen will be serving up pale ale biscuits smothered in sausage gravy, made from scratch. After breakfast, sample eight barrel-aged LowDown beers, along with selections from other local breweries.
Buckaroo Breakfast at the Children’s Museum
WHEN: January 20
WHERE: Children’s Museum of Denver
Little buckaroos (and their folks) will love this cowboy-inspired event at the Children’s Museum. Activities include a morning of museum exploration, followed by a hearty breakfast and Wild West-themed play. Costumes are encouraged!
As always, Denver’s exciting selection of events reminds us why we love living in the Mile High City. Whether a celebration of our horse-wrangling roots, a convention for outdoor lovers, or a weekend of top-tier craft beer, this January is full of the things that make Colorado great.
